Butorides virescens  Green Heron
These branch-nesting and somewhat colonial piscivores breed in wooded areas of the Mississippi/Red River and Coastal Marsh regions. The prevalence of "Possible" records in the Pine Region may be a result of the difficulty of locating Green Heron nests, because it is unlikely that breeding birds fly 20 miles or more from their nests to obtain food for their young.
